18th Jesus Longboard Classic

Stoke sauce was served all weekend đŸ€™

The 18th edition of the Jesus Longboard Classic rolled into Polzeath, Cornwall over the weekend of April 18th & 19th, hosted by our amazing friends at Tubestation — and what a weekend it was. With more than 60 competitors hitting the water across six divisions — Open Women’s, Open Men’s, U18s, 35+, 50+ and 60+ — this year’s JLC brought the perfect mix of friendly rivalry, surf stoke and community spirit.

More than just a contest, the JLC feels like one big family reunion. Registration was filled with laughs, hugs, and the buzz of old friends catching up before an action-packed weekend in the waves. From sunrise surf checks to beachside banter, the energy all weekend was unreal.

This year’s event also marked a new chapter for the JLC, with Revd Ben Lillie leading the weekend for the very first time as National Director of Christian Surfers UK.

“I love this event — it’s such a beautiful mix of community, serious fun, and serious competition. As a committed cold-water longboarder myself, these are my people. But knowing I don’t come with buckets of contest experience, the obvious choice was to bring in experienced judge and longtime CSUK member David Renyard as Contest Director. David did an incredible job delivering a high-quality contest that ran smoothly, stayed on schedule, and scored epic conditions — especially on the Sunday when God served up some pure Polzeath gold!”

David, who has been a familiar face as head judge across the Jesus Surf Series for many years, stepped into the Contest Director role seamlessly. Head judge duties were handed over to Rhydian Brewer, who brought his experience and energy from the Welsh competition scene to the beach.

As always, the Jesus Longboard Classic was powered by an incredible community effort behind the scenes, with Ebbi Ferguson our Operations Manager, keeping everything running smoothly and helping make this one of the most relaxed, well-organised, and best-feeling events yet. Out in the water, the competition was full of stoke, with every heat packed with encouragement, cheering, and standout surfing. The finals went right down to the buzzer, and the U18s absolutely lit up the lineup — throwing down stylish lines and pushing each other wave after wave in some of the most exciting surfing of the weekend.

The Sabina Edwards Trophy for Outstanding Female Surfer was awarded to Saffron after an unforgettable display of grit and determination during Saturday morning’s chunky paddle out. Her commitment in the heavy conditions earned huge respect from everyone on the beach. A brand-new award for 2026 — the Spirit of the Jesus Longboard Classic Trophy — was presented to Rowan Curbishley after he paddled away from his own heat to make sure another competitor was safe in the lineup
and somehow still came back to win the heat! An all-time JLC moment and a perfect example of what the weekend is all about.

None of this would be possible without the incredible volunteers from within the Christian Surfers UK community, whose energy, professionalism, and hard work make the Jesus Longboard Classic such a special weekend year after year. Without them, this competition simply wouldn’t happen, and we are so grateful.

And of course, the incredible support of our sponsors and partners, whose generosity helps make the whole weekend possible — from water safety, incredible trophies and great prizes – we’d like to give a massive thank you goes out to all the brands, businesses, and supporters who backed the Jesus Longboard Classic and helped create another unforgettable weekend in Polzeath.
