CHRISTIAN SURFERS UK SUPPORTS UK PRO SURF TOUR EVENTS

Important announcement 27th Jesus Surf Classic – the remaining categories
After much discussion with our volunteers, other surfing organisations and bearing in mind a busy surfing calendar, Christian Surfers UK has decided that rather than hold the final five divisions of the 27th Jesus Surf Classic in mid to late November, it will be cancelling those divisions and instead investing with sponsorship one of the key organisations already providing top quality competition for surfers, namely the UK Pro Surf Tour. We have always believed that by working together we can achieve more for the sake of British surfing, and historically we have always tried to do that with all of the individual country federations as well as the ‘Tour’.
This has not been an easy decision as we love hosting the event, but we just felt that setting a date later in the year after numerous events have been cancelled, with the competitive surfing community always being on standby, and with autumn days becoming shorter, would not be fair to everybody and indeed it could devalue the competition.
UK Pro Surf Tour Director Dave Reed said of the decision, “We are very pleased to have the support of Christian Surfers for the last two events on the UKPSA tour. Over the last 20 years they have always been helping out at the events we do in numerous capacities which most people don’t see; structure, setting up, breaking down, hot drinks, food, staffing at all levels, including David Renyard, one of our top judges. Competitive surfing has benefited and gone forward from the support they give to athletes and events.”
Full refunds will be given to all previously entered competitors, hopefully within the next three to four working days and we would also confirm that the dates for the 28th Jesus Surf Classic (which we plan will include all the categories as well as the skatepark) will be on 19 – 20 September 2020.
Contest director Phil Williams said, ‘A really tough decision to cancel the remaining five divisions, and at the heart of consideration were the surfers, the number of available dates, the shortening of days and of course the necessity to provide a really good festival site, which in late autumn could prove problematic. We are, however, very much looking forward to welcoming you all again in September 2020. Supporting the UKPSA in this way is a great way of continuing our commitment to this crucial organisation within British surfing. ’
The Jesus Longboard Classic, though is just around the corner and Christian Surfers UK is very much looking forward to seeing the longboard community this weekend at Polzeath (12 – 13 October) for the 2019 Jesus Longboard Classic (conditions permitting). We are looking forward to another fantastic weekend of competition, community and hospitality. It’s a great partnership event with Tubestation and key sponsors Nineplus, Finisterre, Old Guys Rule and supporting organisations Era Adventures and Beagle Media.
The registration portal remains open until close of play on Monday 7 October and after that only if spaces remain.
So, in conclusion it was a tough decision, as it’s the only time in our 27 year history that we have had to cancel any categories. The one-day junior categories event back in September was a real success so thank you for your continued support and encouragement and friendship. To give you a reminder of that beautiful day we are very grateful to Simon Cotter of Ruwac Productions for the event film edit which has just been released.

God Bless
Phil Williams – Jesus Surf Series Contest Director
