JSC 2021 – Competitor update – U12 U14 AND U16 CANCELLED

29th Jesus Surf Classic Oct 2-3 – update midday Wednesday 29th September.
 It’s fair to say this week has not been an easy one with regards to surf predictions for this weekend’s 29th Jesus Surf classic.
The forecast of potentially challenging surf conditions is persisting (although still changing, and will continue to do so due to the tracking of the low pressure), so unfortunately, with that in mind, we have decided to take the really hard decision at this early stage and with the information currently available, to cancel the Under 12s, Under 14s and Under 16s divisions for the event in 2021.

We will not be rescheduling this as there is a packed contest schedule in the next few weeks, and few people would really want a big community surf contest in the middle of winter!

At this stage we are planning to run the remaining five categories (Boys and Girls U18s, Men’s and Women’s Open, and Over 35s). However, forecasts continue to be updated, and with safety paramount, we will not make that final call until Thursday afternoon, when we will update competitors via e-mail and social media.

Organisers Christian Surfers UK are really sorry to make this call, but it’s after much soul searching, checking in with surf forecast sites, and prayers, as well as considering the health and safety implications of running an event, particularly for the younger ones, in these ever-changing autumnal conditions.

Anybody in the cancelled categories will, of course, be getting their money back, and likewise, if anybody is in the U18s and would like to also withdraw at this stage, because their other category isn’t running, that’s no problem at all, please email Ali office@christiansurfers.co.uk

Next year will be the 30th anniversary of the ‘Jesus’ and we hope to be back, bigger and better, with the skate park in tow, and to run the whole event in mid-September, for what we believe will be a real weekend of celebration.

Once again, on behalf of my amazing volunteer team, who are as disappointed as anybody else, we can only apologise, but we think it’s really important we communicate in good time, especially with the current issue of fuel shortages, so that you can make plans for the weekend, and hopefully not incur additional costs.
